About Us

Marshville Elementary serves kindergarten to fifth-grade students and is located in Marshville. We are a Dual Language Immersion school with a STEM program (Science, Engineering, Technology, and Math). Our students and staff follow Positive Behavior Intervention Supports (PBIS) through school-wide expectations. They are taught instructional strategies based on the North Carolina Standard Course of Study and Advancement Via Individual Determination (AVID). We have a family-like atmosphere with a good, collaborative and supportive community.

Courtney Luce (Principal)

About Ms. Luce

Courtney Luce is originally from Knoxville, Tennessee. She attended Wingate University where she received her undergraduate degree in elementary education in 2006. She went on to complete her master's degree in school administration and curriculum and instruction from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte in 2022.

Ms. Luce has been a part of Union County Public Schools for 20 years. She was a classroom teacher at Unionville Elementary for 15 years where she taught 2nd, 4th, and 5th grades. She then served as an assistant principal intern at Stallings Elementary before being named the assistant principal at Marshville Elementary. In the fall of 2023, Ms. Luce was named the Principal at Marshville Elementary.

Away from work, she enjoys relaxing at the beach, cheering on her Tennessee Volunteers, spending time with family and friends, and fostering dogs for local animal shelters.

Ms. Luce is passionate about inspiring a love of learning in the students at Marshville Elementary and is dedicated to guiding them as they grow into lifelong learners. She feels grateful to work alongside the families, students, and staff of Marshville and values the strong sense of community that makes the school such a special place. Serving the Marshville community is both a joy and an honor for her.

Crystle Welsh (Assistant Principal)

About Mrs. Welsh

Mrs. Welsh is originally from New York and moved to North Carolina in 2006. She began her teaching career in Charlotte Mecklenburg Schools, where she taught third grade for six years. She later joined Union County Public Schools and has proudly served in the district for the past 13 years.

At Sun Valley Elementary, Mrs. Welsh taught fourth grade for five years. She then joined Marshville Elementary in 2018, where she served in additional leadership roles as a math interventionist, MTSS coordinator, and instructional support specialist before being named assistant principal in February 2023. Over the years, she has served in many capacities at MVES and truly loves working alongside the dedicated staff and amazing students.

Mrs. Welsh earned her undergraduate degree in Elementary Education at Dowling College (2006) and her master's in Educational Leadership from Queens University of Charlotte in May 2025. As she enters her 20th year in education during the 2025–2026 school year, Mrs. Welsh remains deeply committed to making a positive and lasting impact within her school community.

Mrs. Welsh resides in Indian Trail with her family. She enjoys spending time with loved ones and cheering on her daughter, who dances competitively and is also a junior varsity cheerleader for a UCPS school.
